River Ticino rises at Passo of Novena, in Switzerland .
After passing the Alps it flows into the Lago Maggiore, continuing its course out of the lake at Sesto Calende , marking the natural boundary between Piedmont and Lombardy.
It officially enters our region at Abbiategrasso, where, on its way, it passes through the area west of Pavia called Lomellina, flowing on near Vigevano.
At Bereguardo river Ticino flows under the famous Bridge of Boats (built of real boats in cement , placed one after the other).
It finally arrives in Pavia, where it separates the Borgo Ticino (the lowest district) from the rest of the city.
Its long course finishes near Ponte della Becca, where the waterway flows into river Po.
River Po rises at Pian del Re, at the foot of Monviso in Piedmont.
It ‘s the longest Italian river, with the largest basin and the maximum flow rate at the mouth. It runs through the north of Italy, across the regions of Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia – Romagna and Veneto, flowing through five major cities, such as Turin, Piacenza, Cremona, Ferrara and Rovigo.
Through a delta estuary, considered world heritage site by Unesco, the river flows into the Adriatic Sea.
delta: the river flows into the sea dividing into many small branches.
tidal creek (estuary): the river flows into the sea without dividing its bed into branches.
THE NAVIGLIO PAVESE
The Naviglio Pavese is a canal that unites Milano to Pavia, built in 1396 by Gian Galeazzo Visconti.
It begins its flow from Darsena of Porta Ticinese in Milan, then crosses Binasco to finally arrive in Pavia, where it flows into the river Ticino near Piazzale Europa.
The 56-metre drop above sea level between the two cities of Milan and Pavia was overcome thanks to eight locks, designed by Leonardo.
VERNAVOLA: Vernavola is a canal that rises in San Genesio and arrives at Pavia, where it flows through the park bearing the same name. 15km after it flows into the Ticino, like the Naviglio Pavese.
Remember: canal = a small stream used for irrigation
TREBBIA: River Trebbia rises on Mt Prelà, in Liguria. It flows through the Ligurian territory, through Pavia, in the municipality of Brallo Pregola, and finally through the city of Piacenza. Its course ends in the Plain, after flowing into the Po near Piacenza.
I LOVE… ONE DIRECTION
I’m here to talk about my passion: One Direction. One Direction is an Irish-English pop boy band, consisting of Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. They were formed in the seventh series of the British televised singing competition “The X Factor 2010”.
They released their first album Up All Night on September 2011, their single What Makes You Beautiful reached number one on the UK singles chart.
The boys released other two albums: Take Me Home on November 2011 and Midnight Memories on 23rd November 2013. The single Live While We’re Young reached the top 10 in almost every country
One Direction won “123” awards; 10 Capricho Awards, 9 Teen Choice Awards, 5 Billboard Awards, 4 Brit Awards, etc.
One Direction entered the Guiness World Records in the U.S, thanks to their album Up All Night.
My favorite member of the band is the Irish charmer, Niall James Horan, he has wonderful green eyes, a stunning smile and nice blond hair. He was born on 13th September 1993 in Mullingar, Ireland.
And now I can say I’m done talking about idols.
I hope you like it. 🙂
